3 Things to Avoid When Painting the Interior of Your Home

If you’re gearing up to begin painting the interior of your home, regardless of the scale of your project, you’re probably feeling pretty excited to unveil a new look for your living space. However, you might also have a few concerns about the process, especially if you’re going to be doing things yourself. When it comes to painting your home, it’s always wise not to skip the small stuff and avoid making silly mistakes or errors!  Keep reading to learn a little about three things you should steer clear of doing as you prepare for this undertaking.

1. Failing to Prepare the Surface

You can’t just walk up to a wall and begin painting it without expecting to run into problems. Any chips, cracks, holes, or other flaws in the surface will still be visible through the paint, which essentially renders it ineffective at enhancing the wall’s appearance. There might also be dust, dirt, lint, or even hair on the wall that shows up clearly when in contact with the wet paint. You’ll want to correctly prepare the surface for painting before getting started. Always wash interior walls before painting them and take time to repair any noticeable surface damage like dents, scrapes, and other signs of wear.

2. Using Cheap Materials

It’s very possible for paint projects to have budget restraints, which can lead to people using cheaper and lower-quality paints. These budget paints provide poor coverage, meaning that the old color may show through, and the new shade won’t appear consistent. Low-quality paints also don’t last as long, are more prone to scuffs and stains, and are tougher to wash thoroughly. Simply put, you’ll end up with imperfect coverage that results in less-pleasing results with a shorter lifespan.

It’s also worth noting that when you hire a professional team of painters, the materials cost is only a small part of your investment—you’re really paying for the labor and manpower. That said, it simply doesn’t make sense to try to save a few bucks on paint when the results are well worth the money spent!

3. Rushing the Process

Good painters work efficiently, not necessarily quickly. When you rush the process, you tend to create all sorts of otherwise avoidable issues. For example, a rushed paint job often leads to paint splatters, drips, and flecks ending up in places where they don’t belong, like countertops, appliances, or even furniture. It can also cause uneven paint lines, as well as thin or patchy areas. Take your time, plan every step methodically, and remind yourself that spending a while painting isn’t the end of the world—especially if it ensures spectacular results.

Of course, you can easily avoid these pitfalls not just by knowing how to do things correctly, but also by relying on a skilled team of professionals to get the job done!
